The City of Nevada is requesting proposals from qualified firms of certified public accountants to audit its financial statements for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2010, with the option of auditing its financial statements for each of the four subsequent fiscal years. These audits are to be performed in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards, the standards set forth for financial audits in the General Accounting Office’s (GAO) Government Auditing Standards (1994), the provisions of the federal Single Audit Act of 1984 (as amended in 1996) and U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circular A-133, Audits of States, Local Governments, and Non-Profit Organizations.

Firms interested in submitting a proposal must submit their “Notification of Interest” by September 20, 2010. A preproposal conference for all the firms interested in submitting a proposal will be held at 2:00 p.m. on September 22, 2010 at 120 South Ash Street, Nevada, MO in the Council Chambers to answer questions about the engagement. After this preproposal conference, any inquiries concerning the request for proposals should be addressed to Kristie Modlin, Finance Manager. All interested audit firms unable to attend will be provided with a copy of the minutes of the pre-proposal conference by October 1, 2010, through e-mail.
To be considered, four copies of a proposal must be received by Kristie Modlin, Finance Manager, at 110 South Ash Street, Nevada, MO 64772 by 5:00 p.m. on October 8, 2010.

Yoga Program at Chapman Estates

Chapman Estates participating in Yoga exercises with Samantha Gilmore at recent luncheon.

Samantha Gilmore, Yoga Teacher presented a program to Chapman Estates at their monthly resident meeting. Residents participated in doing yoga stretches and exercises.

In observance of September being National Yoga Month, classes will be offered to residents at the Crawford House on September 9th, 16th, 23th and 30th at 11:15 a.m. free of charge by Samantha Gilmore.

New Computer at the Crawford House

Mike Headley, Resident regularly uses the work station to check his email.

Thanks to efforts of Dave Millam and KCP&L, residents of the Nevada Housing Authority are benefiting from having a work station in the community room at the Crawford House that can be used for their individual needs.

Residents are encouraged to use the computer for email communication so that they can stay connected with family and friends. Residents have also found that the work station keeps them connected with news, weather, employment opportunities, education and other training opportunities. Guidelines have been established for use. Volunteers are welcome that wish to volunteer their time to tutor residents on basis computer use.

Plans are being made to add work stations at the Paddock House for use by Fairground Estates residents and additional work stations for Crawford House.The work stations will provide access and training through technology that residents might not otherwise be afforded.

The agency continues to strive to meet their mission of empowering residents to access community resources through technology while providing decent, safe and sanitary housing opportunities to eligible individuals and families.

JOB NOTICE – City Treasurer

The City of Nevada, Missouri is accepting applications for a City Treasurer. Duties include but are not restricted to managing daily operations of the finance department and the utility billing department, administering the fiscal functions of the city, preparing financial reports, assisting the City Manager with the annual budget, maintaining a record of all the City’s assets, and coordinating and preparing schedules for the City’s annual audit.

Nevada is a Home Rule City with a Council/Manager government, with a $12 million budget. Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or other closely related field. Experience equivalent to five years full-time, supervisory level fiscal/accounting work is necessary, including a minimum of two years experience in municipal government. Experience in a computerized accounting system, preferably InCode is necessary. Extensive experience at a managerial level in a municipal accounting environment may be substituted for the educational requirements.
