City Receives Energy Grant

The City of Nevada has received a Public Buildings Energy Efficiency Retrofits Grant in the amount of $11,738.50.

The grant funds were made available from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources awarded the grant as part of the Energize Missouri Communities program.

The funds will be used to upgrade current public buildings with more energy efficient fixtures that will reduce energy consumption, improve lighting, heating and cooling systems, and reduce future utility bills. The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of August, 2012.

Buildings to be upgraded include City Hall, the Public Safety Building, the Water Treatment Plant, the Animal Shelter, and the Public Works building. Nevada municipal buildings constructed in the past few years currently make use of energy efficient technology.  These buildings include the Franklin P. Norman Community Center, the airport terminal building, the Marmaduke Park community building, the Parks Maintenance building, and the Waste Water Treatment Plant currently under construction.
