Government
The City of Nevada, Missouri is a general purpose municipal government located in Vernon County, Missouri. It became a home rule city on June 5, 1979. Home rule is the right of the people to frame and adopt a charter by which they determine for themselves the structure and powers of their local government.
The City of Nevada operates under the Council/Manager form of government to provide for the health, safety and welfare of Nevada residents.
The City Council appoints volunteers to serve on various advisory boards, commission and committees. Each Council Member and the Mayor may serve as representatives on intergovernmental and regional boards, commissions and committees as part of their elected capacity.
Council Members and the Mayor are directly accountable to the electorate and must constantly balance the views of individuals and groups with the needs of the entire community.
